For story telling we did a story called the Wayfinder. This is a plot matrix of the story. The main character Manu is learning to be a Wayfinder.
One day they go to find a new land. But a big storm comes with strong winds and a paddle strikes the Wayfinder on the head killing him. Its up to Manu to lead the way to a new home. Can he do it?
